Start here: independent junior producer pathway

For independent music, screen and community creators. Learn to take a creative project from idea to a reviewable production package—with clear budgets, credits, permissions and questions for professional help. Work at your own pace; use the guides when you need them.

Do this first: open Module 1: Define. Write a one-page project charter: who the project serves, what it will make, what is outside its scope, what is known and what is still proposed. Start with The Last Bus Home, the existing fictional practice scenario.

The original 50 Ways song, EP and proposed screen series are an applied example. Their development status is separate from your progress through the curriculum. See Project Status.

Choose a track

Track Finish line
Music producer One documented, credited, technically organized demo and delivery plan
Screen producer A story/music map, preliminary budget, schedule, and clearance plan
Independent creator An owned publishing, audience-portability, backup, and income-timing plan
Community producer A safe, accessible workshop or apprenticeship outline with participant protections

Order of work

  1. Follow the six modules in the Curriculum. Use the Independent Creator Guide and Glossary when you need an explanation; you do not need to read the whole archive before starting.
  2. Use the Battle the Beast legal pathways to practice seeing how creative choices change rights, evidence, agreement, and professional-review requirements.
  3. Use the fictional capstone exercise; do not begin with private or disputed material.
  4. Complete the creative brief, contribution record, rights envelope, split sheet, delivery checklist, cash plan, and capital worksheet. Use fictional names and numbers; a draft is not a signed agreement.
  5. Follow Accessibility, Youth safety, and Platform independence.
  6. Score the work with the assessment rubric.
  7. Stop at every legal, tax, safeguarding, rights, or consent gate and obtain qualified help.

What you will hand in

Keep one public-safe fictional package: charter, story/music map, budget and cash plan, contribution and rights records, delivery plan, accessibility check, platform-exit plan and unresolved questions. Keep a separate evidence index; do not upload private contracts or personal records.

Check it with the existing rubric: 20 of 24 points and no failed stop condition. That measures the package, not a promise of employment, professional approval or a cleared release.

Minimum tools

A text editor, ledger, secure file storage, backup, headphones or speakers, and recording/editing tools. Brand-specific software is optional. A phone or tablet can be sufficient for documentation and planning.

Completion boundary

Completion demonstrates process literacy. It is not a degree, professional license, rights clearance, distribution agreement, Netflix relationship, or guarantee of employment or income.

Interactive narrative specialization

For the interactive-writer track, continue to the Interactive Narrative Writer Path. It uses Inpatient Corridors: The Yellow Door as a hands-on case study in branching narrative, state, consequence, convergence, endings, playtesting, and the Ink-to-browser production handoff.
